Randomness Sixteen: Shipping & Fan Fiction
Introduction
Have you ever, while watching anime or reading manga, made comments such as ''This' and 'That' look so cute together!' or 'Come on, it's obvious that they like each other..'? If you did, then, you're a Shipper!
The word 'ship' comes from the word 'relationship'.
'Shipping' is a pairing of two fictional characters, regardless of gender. Though, sometime, there might be three or more people in the pairing, forming a triangle love or a threesome.
Terminology
AU: Alternate Universe. The author deliberately alters the original setting of the story, thereby creating an entirely new world.
A/N: Author's Note. Self-explanatory.
OC: Original Character. Character created by the author.
OOC: Out Of Character. The character's personality is different from his/her personality in the series.
OTP: One True Pairing. It means that the two characters mentioned are meant to be together.
OT3: One True Threesome.
POV: Point Of View. Self-explanatory.
Sub Genres
Crossover: Putting the characters from two or more different fandoms together.
Het: Heterosexuality.
Slash: Homosexuality.
Yaoi/shōnen-ai: Male homosexuality.
Yuri/shōjo-ai: Female homosexuality.
Fan Fiction

Fan Fiction is a broadly-defined term for stories about characters or settings written by fans of the original work, rather than by the original creator.
Types
Drabble: A story with about 100 words only. It's often a short scene or idea that does not tell an entire story, or a story at all.
OneShot: A story that is one chapter long.
TwoShot: A story that consists of two chapters.
LongShots: A story that has only one chapter but the word length is longer than normal.
SongFic: The author takes the lyrics of a song and, with the song as inspiration, construct a piece of writing around the lyrics.
AU (Alternate Universe): The author deliberately alters the original setting of the story, thereby creating an entirely new world.
Crossover: Putting the characters from two or more different fandoms together.
